Online Tutor Review Inaugural Post

I'd like to welcome everyone to my inaugural post of my blog, Online Tutor Review.  The review will not only review certain online tutoring Web sites, but also be a mechanism of distributing best practices related to online tutoring.  I hope to make this site helpful for parents, students, educators and administrators who seek to use, development, and expand online tutoring.

On thing is clear--online tutoring, when delivered effectively, works.

This study focuses on success rates of a small group of Algebra I students that attended online tutoring from January 1, 2008 through March 30, 2008 . . . The FLVS Enrollment Department documented the grade for each student, and basic statistics were used to calculate the success rate of each student. Online surveys were also used to measure student attitudes about the tutoring department. Although the study is ongoing, results indicate that online synchronous tutoring positively impacts student achievement"On-line Tutoring and Students: Measuring the Efficacy of Tutoring and How it Affects Completion Rates of Algebra Students" by Cynthia Lee Snell
However, not all tutoring approaches or service providers have created themselves equally, and the range of offerings and providers can be dizzying.  While I won't begin with any reviews, rest assured that soon this blog will be populated with information I hope will be helpful for students, parents, and providers alike.  Your feedback and comments are welcome as we work towards building a world class tutoring service ourselves with your help and inputs and try to avoid the mistakes made by others.
